Photography

I've been playing around with the camera I bought a while back and have taken some photos. I'm always going places to take photos and thought I'd share some of the ones I really like.

DSC_9887
My friend was selling her guitar and wanted some nice shots to sell it.

moonlit homes
I was in Venice Beach, CA walking along the boardwalk. The moon was leer over the homes which were illuminated by the setting sun. I liked the contrast of the cool sky and the warm windows reflecting the sunset.

Sufer
This shot was also taken in Venice Beach, CA. I so love the surf culture in southern california and feel that this really captures something wonderful about living in socal.

Archery Range
I was wandering around Mile Square Park in Orange County and came across an archery range. The warning sign seemed kind of out of the orginary.

Mary and the Moon
This was taken in Long Beach across from the Queen Mary. A little park across the water way gave the perfect view of a majestic creation along side Long Beach's industrial port bathing in the moons glow. Metropolitan beauty.

summer swing
With a friend I went hiking to Holy Jim's Falls in South Orange County. Along the way we stumbled upon what seemed like an abandoned home. Just off to the sit sat a lazy tire swing which seemed so inviting given the state of the decrepit home.

Me and a couple of friends went down to Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach, CA. The state park had a little village inside it which really had traditional california feel.

Duck Duck
I went for a walk in Brea's Craig Park. The little pond had some water fowl and of course ducks! I took a moment to sit down and enjoy the water and right in front of me perched two ducks. The contrast of the white and black, one standing the other sitting, and both looking away. I thought was a neat moment.

Like I said these are just a few of the photos I took that I really like. If you want to see more check out my flickr at

Volunteer Work

I've been volunteering now at The Center Orange County. Occasionally they ask me to create posters/postcards/flyers for them and I thought I post some of them on here.

A couple set apart

TEMECULA – Parked in a small suburban community off Interstate 215 in Murrieta lives a couple that is a little different. Having just gotten home from a Chargers game Maureen Metzler and Nicole Holeman, a lesbian couple, worry about their piling homework.

Homework isn’t the only thing this couple of three years worries about. With the passage of Proposition 8 in last year’s election, Metzler and Holeman's hopes of getting married have been dismantled.

Even though they can’t get married in California Metzler and Holeman do everything married couples do. They stood side by side in the kitchen washing the dishes, bickering and giggling.

With a lack of governmental support of gay marriage Metzler and Holeman often worry about their own safety. Public displays of affection are not just a sign of a love, but in some cases a cause for personal concern.

Weathering things like Proposition 8 and strangers on the street are common occurrences for same-sex couples. This seems to be a dark cloud on this couples horizon. However, there is a silver lining. “I think it makes you a stronger person because you have to deal with more,” said Metzler when asked about how being in a lesbian relation affects her.

Concentrating on what’s important the couple is planning on going away to college next fall. They hope to get into the same school, but Holeman has to complete more classes before she can join her partner.

Until that time they will continue to be the regular suburban family. Enjoying each other’s company, going to school, and doing the dishes.
